Lesson: Matching colors and blending techniques
Great work from my students tonight in Acrylic
Painting for Beginners. Lesson: Matching colors and blending
techniques. Whoever said acrylic paint colors are garish and that
acrylic paints cannot be blended like oil paints, take note!

Painting Found
The painting was found in the original box in which it was packed for delivery to the gallery. So it never appeared in the group show. It will be featured, however, until the first week in October at the Logan Fine Art Gallery during part of the duration of the Salon d' Autome.

The summer is nearly over and I'm feeling that it has been an art-less span of time for me, devoted instead to finding perfect renters for my own property and four owned by others, disposing of items for friends (craigslist), selling my own beloved vintage Land Cruiser, making home improvements (new energy-efficient windows for upstairs rooms, lighting in the kitchen, duct run for heating and air-conditioning to an upstairs room that never had it, new partial roof, landscaping work, building a new gate and the desperate search for hardware that will actually work on it, and more!) The images I'm posting today are for my own personal inventory to help soothe my psyche by looking at work I have completed during the past eight months, including a couple of class demonstration paintings (I teach two eight-week classes Fall, Winter and Spring terms: Acrylic Painting for Beginners and Intermediates.).
And, then there are the two in-progress works below on which I will soon resume painting...
I don't usually post about discouragement here, but this week a watercolor painting I loaned for a group exhibit in a neighboring town gallery, has gone missing. No one has stepped up to identify at what point it went missing, nor has offered any remuneration to me for the lost/stolen work:

On The Easels: New Work in Progress
Above: 30"x24" Acrylic Paint on Canvas - My King Zephyr tenor sax is the subject for this one ~Toni Youngblood 2014
Both of these pieces are inspired by photographs I've taken of musical instruments in recent years as my own budding musical journey has thrust me to venture "places" undreamed.

Antique Mantel Installed!
For fun, I am including photos from when I first moved into my house eight years ago and current photos showing how the spaces and furniture have evolved.
Dining Room BEFORE...(Previous owners installed gypsum wall board over an existing window and after a couple of years, I pulled that out to return natural light through the window into the space. I also painted the original plaster wall a hot chili pepper and replaced my six high-back Italian dining chairs with four Wishbone-style chairs and an antique Regency-style sofa which was placed on the curb by a neighbor.)

Living Room BEFORE...(Some time ago, long before I bought the house, previous owners removed the original mantel. In a local consignment shop, I recently found the antique mantel from a house of the same era. I just had it installed this week. Since this "Before" photo, I replaced the sage green sofa with a leather "Stockholm" sofa from Ikea and recovered the 1930's rattan chair cushions. The 1830's Norwegian Armoire now serves it's original purpose in an upstairs bedroom.)
